Compare the work.
Then the totals.

A public-research project that connects a homeowner’s uncertainty to one clear creative argument: compare what each insulation quote includes before deciding on price.

The question

What would make an insulation enquiry feel more useful?

For a homeowner who knows insulation is an option, the difficult part can be understanding which work to choose. I explored that decision using public customer accounts, published service information and competitor advertising.

The strategy connects customer research to the concept Right Work First, the messaging angle Compare the Same Work and three selected ad openings.

Counts describe topics in the retained sample, not satisfaction, market prevalence or a ranking of customer motivations. One account can carry several tags.

Chart method and supporting accounts

What the evidence can support

Explanations, reassurance and scope questions recur in the reviewed material. Six of the 68 qualifying accounts concern Advanced; most of the sample provides category or competitor context.

The 68 qualifying accounts are a subset of the 89 retained records. The rest provide context and are excluded from the chart denominator. These are not verified unique customers or a representative survey.

Strategy inference

Making the proposed work easier to understand may help a relevant homeowner take the next step. The research does not establish that this message will improve lead quality or conversion.

How much of the advertising was inspected?

Six ad IDs, with inspection limits kept visible

Great Canadian Insulation2Complete copy and static inspection
Above All31 complete carousel; 2 partial videos with unverified audio

Four complete copy/static-or-carousel inspections and two partial video inspections. Four carousel cards and five AD06 copy variants do not add unique ad IDs. Video imagery was sampled across both files; audio remains unverified.

Rebates, comfort, assessment and installation imagery already appear in the inspected ads. A clearer scope explanation is a direction to develop, not an established competitive white space.

02 / The decision

Give uncertainty
a practical next step.

Observed

A quote-stage account describes different areas of work at similar headline prices. Another customer account describes comparing five quotes.

Quote-comparison account Customer comparison experience
Inferred

A homeowner comparing insulation quotes may need help understanding the scope before judging the totals.

Proposed

Start with three checks: the areas covered, preparation included and exclusions. Ask about anything unclear before comparing totals.

The quote-stage account provides context rather than a completed-work outcome and is excluded from the qualifying-account total. Neither account establishes how an ad opening will perform.

03 / The selected direction

One buyer decision.
A narrower argument.

  1. Research → insightsMake the work understandable

Preserve source context and distinguish observations from strategy inferences.

  2. Concept — Creative IdeasRight Work First

Help an older-home owner use a free, no-obligation quote to understand the proposed insulation scope before committing.

    Explore the selected concept
  3. Angle — Messaging StrategyCompare the Same Work

Show why comparing the work covered by each quote is a more useful starting point than comparing totals alone.

    Explore the selected angle
  4. Hooks — Ad Opening LinesThree openings, one argument

Three openings into the same comparison argument, with an alternative for quotes at similar prices.

How the choices narrowed

12 concept candidates were reviewed: five recommended for development, four in reserve, two on hold and one merged. A separate quote-comparison idea was combined with the selected concept to avoid overlap.

Six distinct messaging angles were explored within the selected concept. Quote comparison was chosen for hook development because it turns uncertainty into a practical decision. The assessments reflect strategic fit rather than predicted performance.

What stays fixed

Persona
An older-home owner unsure which insulation work to choose.
Desire
Choose appropriate work with a clear reason for doing it.
Awareness
Solution-aware; the hook audience is already comparing quotes.
Offer
The published free, no-obligation quote is an enquiry step. It does not establish a guaranteed diagnosis or a review of competitors’ quotes.
04 / From angle to opening

Eight hooks.
Three starting options.

The shortlist is based on clarity and fit with the argument. None of these hooks has campaign results.

  1. 01 / Recommended opening

Two insulation quotes. Do they cover the same work?

The clearest default for an owner comparing quotes. It names the decision without assuming a special price situation.

  2. 02 / Uncertainty-led opening

Not sure how to compare your insulation quotes?

Starts with the homeowner’s uncertainty. The proposed continuation supplies the work-based comparison.

  3. 03 / Lower-price decision

Before choosing the lower insulation quote, check what it includes.

Offers a practical check when the owner is considering the cheaper quote.

Alternative / Similar-price quotes

Similar prices don’t always mean the same insulation work.

Use when the homeowner is comparing quotes with similar totals.
Read the shared comparison argument

Put the quotes side by side. Check which areas each one covers, what preparation is included, and what is left out. If anything is unclear, ask the contractor to explain it before you compare the totals.

The completed video creative brief expands this shared comparison argument into a full script and shot plan.

05 / Video creative brief

Three hooks.
One practical demonstration.

The selected concept and angle now have a complete proposed script: three alternative hooks, one shared body and one invitation to request a free, no-obligation quote.

The example

Two clearly labelled sample sheets show attic-only work beside attic-and-basement work. The narration then checks work before installation and what is left out. No prices or real customer documents are used.

The proposed execution

A realistic tabletop shoot with printed props, hands, readable close-ups and calm narration. Each hook leads into the same body and CTA.

Production scope

Confirm talent, equipment, props, final branding and placement. Film the tabletop sequence and check the recorded voice, captions, legibility and final edit before any campaign test.

The written script and shot plan are complete. Hook-to-body alignment is an editorial finding, not performance evidence. Graphic timing mockups are not filmed tabletop footage or finished advertisements. No company approval or live results.

06 / Static creative brief

One visible difference.
Three ways to open.

The same Concept, Angle and Hook shortlist now support a proposed 4:5 static: two equally weighted example sheets make a difference in the work covered easy to see.

The comparison

“Attic” beside “Attic + basement”, clearly labelled as an illustrative example. Neither scope is presented as the better choice. One shared message: “Compare the work, not just the totals.”

The design handoff

H01, H03 and H08 each have exact copy, line breaks, type sizes and layout coordinates. Three proposed-layout review renders show the same comparison, brand identification and free-quote invitation.

The reference boundary

A category-relevant website graphic informs the paired-document layout. A separately documented Advanced Meta static supplies limited service-presentation context. Neither reference’s prices, rebate claims or results become this ad’s promise.

Written direction and proposed-layout review are complete in the supplied brief. Placement and text-only brand treatment still need company approval; final designer artwork, launch checks and audience testing are separate. No finished or launched advertisement is claimed.

07 / Production scope and test plan

From strategy
to execution.

Confirm the service process

Verify how Advanced explains scope, itemisation, exclusions and changes. Obtain a representative, permissioned quote or scope example before making brand-specific promises.

Confirm and produce the proposed execution

The video script, realistic tabletop shot plan and static layout brief are complete. Confirm resources, brand treatment and placement; then film the video and build the final static artwork. Check all three hook variants in each format.

Define a valid test

Confirm the business goal, lead-quality criteria, budget and capacity before deciding how a proposed test should run. No performance target is invented here.

Current scope: research-informed concepts, messaging angles, ad openings, a full proposed video brief and a static brief with three proposed-layout renders. Filming, final static artwork, final checks and campaign testing remain separate stages; this work has not launched.
